Team

John has over 30 years’ experience in the Australian and global property, funds management and finance industries.

Before joining HPI, John was an equity partner, Senior Managing Director, and Global Investment Strategist at Heitman, a global real estate fund manager. He served on its global management committee, global investment committee, co-managing its global listed property portfolios and holding responsibility for its Asia Pacific operations based in Hong Kong and Melbourne.

He has extensive experience in real estate public equity, private equity, and debt markets. Prior to joining Heitman in 2010, John was co-head of real estate securities at Challenger and portfolio manager at HSBC Asset Management. Before moving to investment management in 2001, John worked across real estate equity research and banking roles and began his career as a real estate valuer.

John is a non-executive director in the not-for-profit sector, at HousingFirst, a social and affordable housing provider and has previously served on Child and Family Services’s board, most recently as Chair. He is a member of RICS, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and FINSIA.

John is a graduate of INSEAD’s Advanced Management Program, holds a BBus in Land Economy from Western Sydney University and Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.

Blair Strik has over 20 years’ experience in the property industry, professional services and treasury. Prior to joining the HPI Group, Blair held senior finance positions with the Industry Superannuation Property Trust for over nine years, building on experience from previous roles at Rio Tinto and KPMG.

Blair holds a Bachelor of Business from Swinburne University of Technology and is a Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Sujith Abeysekera joined the HPI Group in 2021 as Finance Manager. Sujith was previously a Manager in KPMG Australia where he serviced a wide variety of listed and unlisted clients and also had the opportunity to work with large multinational technology companies during a secondment to KPMG Netherlands.

Sujith has a Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University and is a Member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Sean Gayler has been the National Property Manager for the HPI portfolio for more than 15 years. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management and operations of the entire portfolio of hotel and retail tenancies.

With his extensive knowledge and operational leadership experience in the leisure and hospitality industry, Sean has managed all types of commercial properties. He has strong administrative skills, a deep knowledge of contracts, acquisitions, developments and facilities management.

Sean holds a REIQ Real Estate Licence (20 March 2008).
